Ground-penetrating radar for landscape archaeology: Method and applications
Ground-penetrating radar mapping allows for a three-dimensional analysis of archaeological features within the context of landscape studies. The method’s ability to measure the intensity of radar reflections from as deep as 5 meters in the ground can produce images and maps of buried features not visible on the surface. A study was conducted in the desert of the American Southwest to study the ...
متن کاملAdvanced Ground Penetrating Radar Signal Processing Techniques
Ground penetrating radar (GPR) is a non-destructive geophysical method that uses electromagnetic waves to image the subsurface. A typical GPR system has three main components: transmitter and receiver, directly connected to the transmitting and receiving antennas, and a control unit. Electromagnetic pulses are transmitted into the subsurface and the earth response is recorded. The GPR method is...
متن کاملAdvanced Inversion Techniques for Ground Penetrating Radar
Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) systems are nowadays standard inspection tools in several application areas, such as subsurface prospecting, civil engineering and cultural heritage monitoring. Usually, the raw output of GPR is provided as a B-scan, which has to be further processed in order to extract the needed information about the inspected scene. In this framework, inverse-scattering-based a...
متن کاملGround Penetrating Radar Model Simulation for Detection of Coastal Embankment
In recent years, the ground penetrating radar (GPR) is increasingly used in the detection of riprap embankments. In order to analyze the costal embankment with explosive compaction, model experiments are conducted to investigate the influence of seawater on the signal and image of GPR, especially to figure out the image variation of riprap bottom boundary. The influence of immersion of seawater...
متن کاملGround-Penetrating Radar
Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) has recently gained a wide acceptance in the archaeological community as a method that can quickly and accurately locate buried archaeological features, artifacts, and important cultural strata in the near-surface. The GPR method has been especially effective in certain sediments and soils between about 20 cm and 5 m below the ground surface, where the targets to ...
